Q&A: JENSKE PEMEN OF VILA
12 / 06 / 2015

In the "Q&A"-series of Sienna Stories, we are introducing interesting individuals who are working with us - either at our company or in our network of suppliers.

In this Q&A, meet Jenske Pemen. She is the sales representative of Vila for Belgium. She is such a pleasure to work with. We meet up with every 8 weeks to do the Vila buyings for Sienna and Sienna Goodies. Vila is one of the core brands of Sienna and has been part of the collection since the start of the boutique almost 10 years ago! I have a special bond with this brand as it's part of the big Danish family company Bestseller, which used to be my former employer before I started on my own! I have learned so much there during my time as a Retail Manager and I will always be grateful for that experience. Jenske has worked for the company for several years and has seen many different aspects of the company and business. Being a mum, she knows how to juggle her work with her precious private life. She is humble, works hard, is focused and loves her job! A woman to my heart!

Jenske is 28 years old and holds a bachelor degree in both psychology and communication management (PR). Before she started working for Vila, Jenske worked 6 months for Inditex as a shop assistant at Bershka/Zara.

SG: How long do you work for your company and how did you end up working in your current job?

JP: I’ve been working for VILA for 4 years now. My college (school) spread the vacancy for Bestseller, and that’s how I got in touch with the company. Initially the job description was different. They were seeking a sales support for another brand. Nevertheless, after some interviews they proposed me a job at Vila. Soon we felt, this brand would perfectly match my personal taste, it gave me the opportunity to work in fashion, and do both sales, and sales support (administration). One year later I got the chance to focus 100% on sales, with focus on selling our basic program, and stock. As this was already “fun”, it only got better and now I’m responsible for our main trend collections (together with my colleagues Karen &Wendy).

SG: What makes the brand/company you represent stand out?

JP: Vila is a very feminine, stylish and affordable brand, inspired by the latest trends. Think nice qualities, little details, delicate fabrics, good shapes, refined pieces, and reasonable prices. We offer fashion for every personality, for every girl or woman that has an eye for fashion and likes to dress up. We offer daily wear for every taste. Vila makes it easy to mix and match, in a very stylish/feminine way.

SG: What do you love about your work/job?

JP: Everything! I don’t want to be too enthusiastic, but I love my job :). Besides the opportunity of a career in the fashion industry, I love being around people and building relationships (with customers/colleagues). They inspire me and make me learn even more about our product and wholesale/retail business. Furthermore, we have so much variation in our job. It’s a great combination of selling in the showroom, visiting customers on the road, having collection meetings, attending events, preparing showroom, etc. You have to be flexible, but that ensures you’ll never get bored :). And last but not least, we have such lovely colleagues. Many of them became good friends.  We also have a good contact with our colleagues from other countries!

SG: Who/what inspires you?

JP: I get inspired by lots of things. I like hanging out in the city, just walking, looking around. I can be really fascinated by checking out other people, observing them, what are they doing, wearing,  … , sounds creepy, right? We are just curious :). Besides I also love “reading” magazines (read: flip pages to see all pictures). We need and want to be informed about what is hot, and what is going on in fashion’s industry. Lately I also started to read more blogs and checking out Instagram. (It gives me lots of inspiration to become better in translating trends).  AND since I discovered Pinterest, I just can’t get enough of it.  A very addictive tool and SUCH an easy way to find what you were looking for. My favorite categories: Fashion, Scandinavian design/interior and Gifts. So nice to have this APP on my phone!

SG: What makes you happy?

JP: Lots of things can make me happy, but actually the most simple things first: Nice weather, summer time, good company (family/friends), going for a walk, strolling around, something nice to eat & drink!

SG: How do you see the future of women’s fashion retail?

JP: Of course you cannot ignore the online aspect, but I think retailers should/and will re-invent themselves. I believe it will be even more important to have this specific mix of brands, to inspire your customers (e.g. by social media), to offer this extra service, and above all, to create this ‘experience’ in the shops (stimulate all senses, e.g. by music, perfume, maybe a place to settle down, give them something to drink, create the right shopping atmosphere). Customers need to be triggered, and you need to make it even more easy for them. In this era, with all technology, we are spoiled. We can get everything we want in a very short time. As a retailer, you should jump on this train and react quickly to the needs and future needs of your customers. The internet has changed everything, but cannot replace it all. Think: Shopping events, ladies night, make-over, etc. People love these things, and this cannot be done online. You need to be creative and very alert.

Jenske, thanks a lot for your willingness to be our first 'victim' of our Q&A-series! We appreciate it a lot! See you very soon again.
