Q&A: LESLEY NEUHARD OF THE CLOSET
03 / 07 / 2015

In the "Q&A"-series of Sienna Stories, we are introducing interesting individuals who are working with us - either at our company or in our network of suppliers.

In this Q&A, meet Lesley Neuhard! She works for the Belgian Fashion Agency The Closet and is the Sales Representative of the Scandinavian fashion brand Minimum. At Sienna & Lois we are selling this brand now for 2 seasons and our customers love it! It's always a joy to work with Lesley because she is an upbeat, always lovely, enthusiastic fashion girl who has a natural match with the brand she represents and also has a clear vision of all the must-have items! Lesley is 31 years old and has a background in Marketing.

SG: How long do  you work for your company and how did you end up working in your current job?

LN: I am working at the fashion agency The Closet for about a year. I know Nils (the owner of the company) already a long time since we were working together for G-star. I always had a thing for Fashion, like most girls, and I could find my satisfaction in my job as a model. I started when I was still studying Marketing and like this, little by little I got into the fashion industry. I worked for a lot of different brands, as a model, but also got some experience in sales at different showrooms. After a while I was eager for something more in the same business and that is how I ended up as a Sales Representative. I still do sometimes modelling work as long as I can combine it with my current job of course! I just love being busy in different aspects of the Fashion Business.

SG: What makes the brand/company you represent stand out?

LN: Minimum is a super cool Scandinavian brand. Scandinavian brands are developing fast and are very popular, not only in home decoration but also in Fashion. Minimum is an affordable fashion forward brand which gives you an on-trend, stylish look. Our fashion agency The Closet and Eye on Fashion is a Visionary brand showroom. Next to the daily follow-up service we offer, we want to inspire our clients in our showrooms.  Innovations, story-telling and creating a sales atmosphere or parts of our vision towards a changing retail world. We are focusing on service, in every way possible. I believe this differentiates us from the mainstream wholesale business.

SG: What do you love about your work/job?

LN: I love the social contact with colleagues and clients. I get to collaborate with people who are working in fashion and have the same ideas and preferences about certain outfits and lifestyle. We are lucky to work in a nice fashion related environment and get inspired by our partners, clients and vice versa. My job is extremely various and that is why I love it so much. You have the selling season when customers come to the showroom to buy their collections.  You present the different themes, talk about the past season what can be improved and make sure you select the best items for that specific client. In between seasons you go out on the road to visit clients and potential clients, see what really happens in the market and this is only possible when you go out and explore!

SG: Who/what inspires you?

LN: Some bloggers inspire me, I love to spend hours on pinterest  and instagram to search for inspiration on home decoration and fashion posts. My best friend can inspire me by combining a trendy outfit she is wearing, but sometimes even my mother or grandmother if she is talking about ‘Fashion’ in her days. Everything is coming back, so lovely. But I mostly get inspired by shops I visit and the shop owner in it. I love people who have this specific white Scandi style, which is cool but still feminine.

SG: What makes you happy?

LN: Besides my job, my sweet dog Colette who is the cutest creature alive, my boyfriend, my family and best friends. If I get to spend time with them preferably on a beach in the sun I couldn’t be happier. But happiness also comes in the little things: cooking a nice meal, decoration my home, enjoying a relax evening in the coach with a glass of white wine, I could go on and on ;)

SG: How do you see the future of women’s fashion retail?

LN: Of course we have a lot of online competition nowadays. Everybody knows, but I believe it is how the store is anticipating on this matter. The purpose of retail will no longer be to convert every customer into a buyer of goods but rather transform them into consumers of the brands itself. What matters is that the consumer falls in love with the brand and the store and shares that love with others. The store maintains the emotional center of gravity for the brands it has to offer. Stores will increasingly become places that we visit, not simply to pick up mass produced articles but also to design and co-create special things with the personal assistance of experts. This can be done in a lot of different ways but these are some of the biggest changes and challenges I see to the concept of retail. Women’s Fashion retail is looking bright if we look further then just ‘selling’. I think the www.siennagoodies.com webshop is a very pro-active  step in the future and this will be a nice evolution to take the Sienna and Sienna & Lois stores to another, higher level. Congratulations, we are proud to have you as a partner!

Lesley, thanks for participating in our Q&A-series! We appreciate it a lot! See you very soon again.
